At Next Vision Instruments, customization has always been part of the way we think about exam lanes.
Not because every chair needs to be bold. Not because every stand needs to be different. But because every practice is different.
This year, that belief became part of something bigger.
Next Vision Instruments partnered with the National Autism Association for a special Autism Awareness fundraiser and giveaway, featuring a one-of-a-kind custom exam lane designed to help create a more welcoming and supportive clinical environment.
Created in honor of Autism Awareness and to help bring attention to the 20th Anniversary campaign, the custom chair and stand were inspired by a personal story from one of our own. The design features autism awareness colors, puzzle-inspired upholstery, and coordinated painted stand details. The result is a fully functional exam lane built to raise awareness, support the cause, and help patients and families feel more welcome from the moment they enter the room.
It supports a meaningful cause, showcases what thoughtful customization can look like, and gives one licensed eyecare practice the chance to bring this unique lane into their office.

Inspired by One of Our Own
The idea for this exam lane began inside our own team.
We asked our staff to create a custom design that could make an impact. The winning concept came from Edgardo, a valued member of our Chair & Stands department, who was inspired by his son, Carlos Gael.
For Edgardo and his family, the autism awareness colors and puzzle-inspired design have always carried meaning. They represent comfort, familiarity, and understanding.
That became the heart of the project.
The goal was not simply to make a colorful chair. It was to create an exam lane that could help an exam room feel more welcoming, especially for patients and families who may feel overwhelmed in clinical settings.
Before a doctor says a word, the room already communicates something.
You’re understood here.
Why We Partnered With the National Autism Association
For this fundraiser and giveaway, Next Vision Instruments partnered with the National Autism Association , an organization focused on providing practical resources, education, and support for autism families and the professionals who serve them.
Every day, families turn to the National Autism Association for trusted safety resources, education, and support. That mission is what makes this partnership meaningful to us.
NAA also offers programs such as Give A Voice , which supports communication methods for individuals with autism who are nonspeaking or unreliably speaking.
The organization also provides educational resources through its Autism ATRIUM WebiNAArs , including a family-friendly webinar on vision therapy and autism.
For an eyecare company, that connection matters. Vision, communication, comfort, and patient experience are all part of how people interact with the world around them. Supporting this cause gives the custom exam lane a purpose beyond the equipment itself.
Why the Exam Room Experience Matters
Doctors know that patient comfort matters.
A patient who feels at ease may be more engaged during the exam. A child who feels less intimidated may be more cooperative. A family that feels welcomed may remember the experience long after the appointment is over.
The exam room does not have to feel cold or generic. The equipment does not have to be invisible. With the right design, an exam lane can become part of the patient experience.
That is what this Autism Awareness lane represents.
The custom upholstery, painted details, bright colors, and full theme were not chosen just to stand out. They were chosen to create a feeling. The final result is still a working exam lane, but it carries a message that goes beyond function.
For practices that care about how patients feel when they enter the room, that matters.
What Customization Means at Next Vision Instruments
When we talk about customization, we do not just mean choosing from a few standard colors.
We mean real customization.
That can include custom upholstery, original patterns, themed chair designs, painted instrument stands, painted phoropters, coordinated color palettes, branded equipment, pediatric-friendly concepts, awareness-themed designs, and full exam lane ideas built around a practice’s identity.
This Autism Awareness chair and stand is one example of what is possible.
A pediatric practice may want a room that feels fun and less intimidating. A boutique optical may want equipment that matches a polished interior. A family practice may want something warm, modern, and approachable. A practice with strong branding may want its colors carried through the chair, stand, and phoropter. A specialty clinic may want a room that feels distinct and memorable.
The point is simple: your exam lane does not have to look like everyone else’s.
- It can reflect your patients.
- It can reflect your brand.
- It can support the environment you are trying to create.
- It can tell a story.
And it can still be practical, durable, and ready for daily use.

Support the Cause and Enter to Win
This giveaway is about more than a chair and stand. It is about supporting the National Autism Association, honoring a story from our team, and giving one licensed eyecare practice the chance to bring a meaningful custom lane into their office.
Custom Equipment Still Has to Work Like Clinical Equipment
The most important part of any custom equipment is that it still has to work for the doctor.
A custom chair or stand cannot just look good in a photo. It has to hold up to real patients, real schedules, real exams, and real clinical flow.
That is why this project is meaningful to us.
The Autism Awareness lane shows that creative design and clinical function do not have to compete. The chair and stand were customized visually, but they were still built for a working eyecare practice.
For doctors and practice owners, that balance matters.
You should not have to choose between equipment that functions well and equipment that fits the personality of your practice. You can have both.
From Custom Upholstery to Full-Themed Exam Lanes
Every practice has a different reason for wanting custom equipment.
Some want a cleaner, more elevated look. Some want to make pediatric patients feel more comfortable. Some want to reinforce their brand. Some want a chair and stand that match a new office buildout. Some want to create a room that patients will remember.
Customization can be as subtle or as bold as the practice wants.
For one office, it may mean custom upholstery in a specific color or material. For another, it may mean a custom pattern across the chair. For another, it may include a painted stand, a painted phoropter, or coordinated details that bring the entire lane together.
The Autism Awareness design is intentionally bold because the story behind it is personal and meaningful. But custom work does not always have to be loud. It can be modern, subtle, polished, playful, branded, artistic, or completely unique.
The goal is to create equipment that feels like it belongs in your practice.
A Giveaway With a Purpose
This custom chair and stand was created to support a cause, and we are inviting the eyecare community to be part of it.
For doctors and practice owners, this is an opportunity to support autism awareness while entering for the chance to win a one-of-a-kind custom exam lane.
But the heart of the giveaway is bigger than the prize.
It is about supporting families. It is about raising awareness. It is about honoring a story from one of our own. It is about showing how a clinical space can be designed with more care, more intention, and more humanity.
Why We Hope Doctors Participate
Eyecare providers understand the importance of seeing people clearly, not just clinically, but personally.
Every patient comes into the exam room with their own needs, expectations, fears, and experiences. Some patients are comfortable right away. Others need more time. Some children are curious. Others are nervous. Some families are looking for a provider who understands that small details can make a big difference.
This giveaway was built around that idea.
A custom exam lane may not change an entire appointment on its own, but it can help set the tone. It can make the room feel more welcoming. It can show patients that the practice thought about their experience before they even sat down.
That is what makes this project meaningful.
It connects what we do as an equipment company with what doctors do every day: create better experiences for patients.
The Story Continues With the Winning Practice
At the end of summer, one licensed eyecare practice will receive this customized chair and stand.
That practice will not just receive a unique piece of equipment. It will receive the story behind it.
- The story of a father inspired by his son.
- The story of a team that turned that inspiration into a real exam lane.
- The story of a fundraiser created in partnership with the National Autism Association.
- The story of an eyecare community coming together for something good.
And when that lane is placed in an exam room, it will continue doing what it was designed to do.
It will welcome patients. It will start conversations. It will remind families that small details can carry a lot of meaning.
